Ok so here goes… my post about the new bbw movie Phat Girlz. I guess I have mixed emotions about what I have seen so far from the trailer of the movie. For starters I think it’s great that Mo’Nique is doing her thing as a big girl and being unapologetic for not being a size 2. I’ve never really seen her show Fat Chance but that is because my dish company doesn’t have Oxygen on my package. If I did have it you can be sure that I would watch. Now I love that this is a movie about a big girl getting it all, the guy the career, and living the life after you have been dealt a few major blows. At least this is what I gather, I could be wrong.
I think the one thing that disappoints me about the movie though is that they are perpetuating the myth that the only type of men who openly show their attraction for BBW or big women are from foreign countries. Like you can have the gorgeous guy if you move to Europe or are lucky enough to have a man who has immigrated from Africa fall smitten for you. Now lol I am a person who has dated quite a few brothers in my dating years. Quite a few of them pretty bbw fucking hot I might add LOL! I think it’s safe to say that many black american males are attracted to bbws. I really think I would have been happier if they had the main male lead be american, not african. So that makes me wonder if Hollywood would only swallow it if the story went in that direction. I mean who really has a problem with it? Studios or middle america? I don’t know. I do know that I can’t make a final decision until I see the movie. It might be very well done. Lord knows there aren’t many out there that have a big woman as the star and as the one who gets the guy so no matter what the story line I have to get behind Mo’Nique for being a big girl in Hollywood.
